Privacy

Last changed 23 September 2026. It covers Pre-Genesis wherever you play it: in a browser, and in the Android, iOS and desktop apps.

Pre-Genesis is a game made by BEM Studios. There is no account to make and no profile to fill in. Playing alone sends nothing anywhere. Playing online sends only what the other people in your room need to see the same campaign you do.

Playing alone

A solo campaign never leaves the device you play it on. The game writes three things into the browser or app storage on that device:

None of it is sent to a server, and none of it reaches BEM Studios. The game files themselves are cached on the device so you can play with no connection at all.

Exporting a campaign writes a file where you choose to put it. Importing reads a file you choose. The game never opens a file on its own.

Playing online

An online room is the one part of the game that uses a server: api.pre-genesis.online, run by BEM Studios on one rented server. When you make or join a room, the game sends:

Everyone in the room sees the display names of everyone else in that room. Type whatever you like; it does not have to be your real name.

There is no chat. The only messages in a room are written by the game, such as a realm falling or a turn passing.

The room code and your seat token are kept on your device so you can close the tab and come back to the same seat.

How long a room is kept

Rooms live on the server in a small database and are deleted on a timer. Nothing is archived and there is no backup copy kept elsewhere.

Once a room is deleted, the display names and the campaign in it are gone.

What the server notes down

The room service counts recent requests per network address so one device cannot flood it. That count is held in memory, is never written to the database, and is dropped after ten minutes of quiet.

When a request fails the service prints the time and the reason. It does not print names, room contents or seat tokens.

The web server in front of it keeps an ordinary access log: time, network address, the path asked for and the answer given. It holds no game content and no names.

What the game never does

Links out of the game

Every name in Pre-Genesis is cited, and the Codex puts those citations on screen as links to museums, libraries and text archives. Opening one leaves the game and hands you to that site, which has its own privacy policy and is nothing to do with BEM Studios. Nothing about you or your campaign goes with you; the game only opens the address.

Children

Pre-Genesis is not aimed at children under 13, and it asks nobody for their age, name, email address or anything else that would identify them. The only text a player can enter is the display name used in an online room, and it is deleted with the room. If a child has typed something into that box that you would rather was gone, leave the room and it is deleted at once.

Removing what is kept

There is no account to close, and nothing to ask us to erase, because nothing is held against a person.

Changes

If what the game does changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top changes too. The version of this page that matters is the one published at pre-genesis.online.
